Why are we so obsessed with how many calories, fats, points, carbohydrates etc are in the food we eat? Our grandparents didn’t count calories and yet they didn’t have the obesity epidemic that we have now. Alright, so they didn’t have the labor saving devices either, but they didn’t count every morsel that passed their lips.
There are more diets and diet foods available than ever before, but more of us are overweight and obese than ever before. This is because calorie counting is no good for permanent, long term weight loss. So why bother checking the calorie content of everything to try and find the best “slim foods” when it clearly isn’t working.
Supposing you ate only the typical low calorie foods of vegetables, fruits, oats and so on – how often do you think you’d last before you died of boredom? We need variety in our diets, both for our health and well being. I’m not saying that five donuts and three cappuccinos every day is going to get the fat off, but I am saying that to include them occasionally is not going to affect your weight one iota.
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re overweight and still trying to get the flab off by counting calories – or counting something – but, if it works, why aren’t you thin?
